A sunny afternoon so the granddaughter and I ventured out to play. The snow on our sliding hill was so deep we gave up after sinking above our knees several times. But that was okay, my young acrobat was happier climbing over the mountains of piled plowed snow. Luckily I didn’t have to negotiate the ice boulders. She needed me to time her ascents against her imaginary opponents and watch her climb and disappear over the other side. I was needed to interview the champion. How I love watching this imagination in play. I don’t want to over schedule our time together because I want these moments for play to open up. It is fun when she takes the lead. I’m not responsible for entertaining her. We are playing together. My darling and I get to laugh, plan and dream together. What can be better than that?

  1. I am envious of your snow! And I love that you don’t over schedule the time with your granddaughter and just let the fun bubble up. Thanks for sharing this!

  2. Such vivid images of your icy fun! Even so, the warmth of your happy hearts, being together, enjoying the play, comes through. How important these moments are.

  3. Indeed, what could be better than that? For some reason, I just adore this first line: “A sunny afternoon so the granddaughter and I ventured out to play.” There’s something not quite grammatically conventional about it, and that is what makes me love it. And what a beautiful moment to share!
