Training the cat?

I’ve always had a cat and my husband has always had a dog, so when we joined forces we both were exposed to new experiences. It got really interesting years later when a new kitten was brought into the family and my dear spouse was the house husband. Since he was there all the time, he and the dog raised her. She knows to come when “Dad” whistles and loves to play fetch with her mouse toys.  She is still all the best parts of a cat – curious, a great hunter, affectionate and a winter hater. This outdoor cat resigns herself to stay curled up next to the wood stove when it is cold and snowy out there. It is during this almost spring weather time that she drives us crazy. One day it is warm enough to go out, then the next day too cold. But she needs to check those weather conditions every hour, in-out, in-out, in-out especially over night. She knows just what to do to get our attention and get the door opened. My poor husband shoulders the brunt of these interruptions- god bless him. Yes, now that cat has him trained! Thank goodness soon the warmer days will be here to stay.

  1. You weave a lot of important backstory and emotion into this slice–how you make decisions together, how you work together, the coziness of your home. I’m with your husband in animal preferences, but your cat sounds like a good one.

  2. When I first read your post title I thought I would learn some tips to use with my two cats! 🙂 My two have 100% got me figured out and know exactly what is going to get me up and out of bed in the wee, dark hours of the morning. My husband is luckily able to ignore them a little better than I can. I’m sure she will be thrilled with the warmer weather to come!

  3. The cat has hime trained- ha! I can identify, as my little girls and wife talked me into two cats last fall. Guess who feeds and takes care of them? Thanks for sharing this slice!

  4. I love the twist here as your husband moves from the one doing the training to the one being trained. Cats are crafty that way!
